Bob Boyer

Bob Boyer was born near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on July 10, 1948. He died on August 30, 2004. He was a Métis artist. His friend signed him up for the University of Regina without him even knowing. Then he got a letter saying that he got accepted. He decided to go! That was when he started his artistic career. That was in the late 1960’s. he graduated from the University of Regina with a bachelor of education degree in art education in 1971. His earliest paintings are realistic, but he soon started to work on an abstract style. My favorite paintings were “A seven arrow storm” and “Scene/seen at St. Victors”. “A seven arrow storm” doesn’t have seven arrows. It actually has twelve. It has a triangle pattern on the left and right side. It has a rectangle in the middle and an “x” in a bigger square. It looks like there are stairs. In “Scene/seen at St. Victors there are a bunch of horseshoes and animal tracks. There is a tipi, and a lot of pretty colors. What we did first at the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan was our tour guide, Lindsay, told us about Bob Boyer. Then we looked at a few paintings and we did an activity on what we could make with 12 circles. Then we looked at the other beautiful paintings of his. The funnest and the last part was making artwork with pastels.
